The best pool ladders for 2026

A pool ladder is the single most used accessory on the pool, and the one whose failure mode is a person rather than a puddle. The figure that ought to decide it is the load rating in kilograms, and this shelf publishes it inconsistently — where it appears it is usually 100 to 150 kg, and where it does not appear the only honest thing to say is that it is unstated. The second figure is the step count and the wall height it is built for, and they are one specification rather than two: a ladder for a 122 cm wall has more steps and a different splay than one for a 76 cm wall, and using the wrong one puts the top step at an angle that tips. Then the material, which decides how long it lasts in chlorinated water: stainless steel in a stated grade, aluminium, or resin. Grade matters more than metal — 304 stainless pits in a salt pool where 316 does not, and a listing that says only "stainless" is not telling you which. The treads are the wear part: moulded anti-slip resin, or a perforated metal tread that grips better and gets hot in the sun. And the feature that matters on a pool with children, which several makers now offer: removable or lockable outer steps, so the ladder cannot be climbed when nobody is watching.
