Heat kept in, leaves kept out — and wind that has to go somewhere
A dome or a roof over a pool does two things that no cover does: it keeps the water usable in rain, and it lets the sun warm the pool without the debris that comes with an open surface. The figure that matters first is not the one in the title — it is the pool diameter it actually covers, which is always smaller than the dome footprint, and which Steinbach publishes plainly as "für Pools bis Ø 400 cm". The second is the height at the crown, because a dome you cannot stand in is a dome you take down to swim. Then the skin: PVC sheet is cheap, warms fastest and yellows; polyethylene and polycarbonate cost more and last. The frame is either sprung fibreglass rods, which pack into a bag, or steel tube, which does not. And then the thing that decides whether a dome survives its first season, which almost no listing quantifies: what happens to the wind. A dome is a sail anchored to soft ground. Ground pegs, water-filled ballast tubes and sandbag sleeves are all used; a listing that shows anchoring is a listing that has thought about it. Ventilation matters for the same reason and for a second one — a sealed dome over warm water condenses.
